The San Francisco "I Voted" sticker contest is an annual competition held in the city of San Francisco, California, to design the official sticker that is distributed to voters during elections. The contest not only promotes voter engagement but also showcases the vibrant and diverse artistic talent within the city, making each election day a little more special with a memorable sticker to commemorate the act of voting.
THE PROBLEM
After conducting extensive research on both historical and contemporary "I Voted" sticker designs, it became evident that a transformation was necessary. While the basic concept of conveying the message "I Voted" was present in these designs, there was a missed opportunity to create a lasting and memorable keepsake. Unlike postage stamps, which often serve as enduring symbols of significant years, the stickers does not have the same impact.
IDEATION
Designing with the aim of departing from the mundane realm of traditional stickers and forging a path towards unparalleled creativity.
The primary objective of this design contest was to craft a distinctive representation of San Francisco, driven by my aspiration to incorporate quintessential city elements. Consequently, I drew inspiration from the vibrant California Poppy, our state's official flower, flourishing within the serene Botanical Garden nestled in the heart of Golden Gate Park. To further encapsulate the city's essence, I envisioned the playful presence of sea lions and the savory allure of sourdough bread, both prominent attractions along the bustling Pier, drawing tourists and locals alike.
In crafting the backdrop, my aim was to showcase an iconic symbol of San Francisco: the Golden Gate Bridge and the Pier, home of the sea lions.
